Toadstool Cafe at Epic Universe

Image
Super Mario World at Universal Epic Universe feels like walking straight into a video game. The bright colors, the music, the moving coins overhead- it's so immersive! The main place to eat here is the Toadstool Café, where Chef Toad himself is serving up themed dishes that the whole family will love. My kids loved watching the Toads hard at work "making our food" on the screens.  How cute is this!? Once you enter, you can sit anywhere you'd like, and scan the QR code on the table to begin placing your order. If you're going to split the check, each person needs to order on their own Universal App. It saves time if you have your payment method loaded onto your app before your trip. You can also start your mobile order before you get to the restaurant, and hit "I'm here make my food," and enter the table number on your order once you sit down. They have Freestyle Machines for drink purchases, and you can get complimentary water there too.  We loved th...

🪄5 Must-Try Bites at Epic Universe (And a Few To Skip)

Image
Between dragon dens, dark castles, and toadstools, we tried lots of good food at Epic Universe. Some bites were so good I’m still dreaming about them. Others, not so much. Here are 5 things we loved at Epic Universe (plus a few side notes of what we didn't.) 🐉 1. Meatlug’s Chicken Bowl – Spit Fyre Grill (Isle of Berk) Spit Fyre Grill is a counter service spot near the ride Fyre Drill. You can mobile order or walk up to order at the window. The Chicken bowl? Absolute fire. Meatlug knows what’s up. It was savory, and flavorful and just felt right in Berk.  It was a chicken breast on a stick, with a delicious drizzle of paprika sauce, grilled brussel sprouts, roasted red peppers, shredded cheddar, and ancient grains. Healthy, but satistfying! I also tried the Rekorderlig Strawberry-Lime Cider, it’s basically summer in a cup. Highly recommend if you like your drinks sweet and a little sparkly.  Meatlugs Chicken Bowl & Cider  Meatlugs Bowl SpitFyre Grill seating area Stoi...

Toadstool Cafe at Universal Studios Hollywood

Image
Growing up, Super Nintendo was the ultimate gaming system. I remember spending hours trying to defeat Bowser in Super Mario World and racing to the finish line in Super Mario Kart. When Universal announced that SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™ was coming to Universal Studios Hollywood, my inner child (and grown adult self) was absolutely elated! SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™ is a totally immersive land that truly transports you to the world of Mario, Luigi and their friends. One of those friends is Toad, who is serving as Chef at the Toadstool Café. The restaurant is a quick service option that features tasty creations, very much on theme. It's the only dining location within the area so be prepared for limited capacity and high demand. Reservations can only be made in person on the day of your visit by scanning a QR code posted outside the entrance to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™ and the Toadstool Cafe. If reservations are fully booked, you may still be able to join the wait list but joining the wait list ...

Bigfire Restaurant Review

Image
Bigfire is, in my opinion, a great addition to Universal CityWalk at the Universal Orlando Resort. Having been a huge fan of Emeril's which was previously in this location, I was skeptic, but quickly put at ease once we were inside and met our server and have been back several times since. After a full day in the parks, we had a pretty late dinner on the agenda so we started in the lounge attached to the restaurant.  The cocktail selection is quite extensive, with bourbon drinks being the star here. My Manhattan was delicious and set the tone for a great meal ahead! The bar is also a great stop if you don't have a reservation, I found the bartenders friendly, attentive, and making great drinks! The open kitchen is a great feature as you enter the dining room.  The décor is modern yet cozy with touches of plaid throughout.  The highlight is of course the "big fire", where they wood smoke a variety of meats for the entrees. We started the meal with some wine a...
