RCCL Independence of the Seas: Day 4

Day 4 of this trip means our last full day on vacation!  We had another sea day today as we cruised back to Galveston from Cozumel yesterday.  Unfortunately, the weather wasn't quite as nice today, with overcast skies and some rain drizzles, but nothing too bad at all and plenty of indoor activities for us to enjoy! We once again started our day with breakfast in the Windjammer, preferring it to breakfast in the Main Dining Room.  I enjoyed a nice variety of food, especially enjoying the avocado toast and yogurt parfait.  After breakfast, we headed up to the Sports Deck once again, learning that the door was just really hard to open so it likely wasn't actually closed the first time we had tried earlier in the trip.  This area was definitely not popular this early in the morning, with everything empty as could be.  The Sports Deck includes the rock climbing wall, basketball court, Perfect Storm waterslides, the Flow Rider and the Sky Pad.  While I really wanted to try the Sky P

RCCL Independence of the Seas: Day 3

Today we arrived in the very popular port of Cozumel, Mexico! We've had nothing but smooth sailing up until this point, so we didn't even notice when we finally stopped moving because we were all squared away at port.  It was another beautiful day in the Caribbean and the sun was shining bright.  We pulled in next to another Royal Caribbean ship and as far as we could tell, were the only two ships in port today.  We started today with breakfast at the Windjammer CafĂ© which had a fantastic selection including parfaits, avocado toast, carved ham, biscuits and gravy along with all your breakfast favorites.  It was the most crowded we've seen it so far on this cruise, but we still had no real issue finding a table and the crew members were readily available to bring us our drinks. The avocado toast and the waffles were a huge hit. We enjoyed some rest and relaxation in our stateroom after breakfast before heading off the ship to explore Cozumel.  We headed off around 12:30 and

RCCL Independence of the Seas: Day 2

Hello from our first full day on Independence of the Seas.  After a restful night's sleep, we were looking forward to our day at sea and some beautiful Caribbean weather.  We were greeted by a double rainbow off our balcony and knew we were in for a great day ahead. We opted to start our day with breakfast in the Main Dining Room and easily made a reservation via the Royal Caribbean App to make that happen. The ship was eerily empty this morning, but once again all the crew members were excited to see us and wished us a wonderful day ahead.  Even with so few people, the signage for social distancing and opportunities for hand sanitizer were all over the ship.  Breakfast in the Main Dining Room starts with assorted baked goods and we enjoyed a cinnamon roll, fruit tart (my favorite) and a croissant. We then went on to have an omelet, eggs benedict, and blueberry pancakes. The omelet was great because you got to choose your own ingredients so you could have exactly what you wanted.

RCCL Independence of the Seas: Day 1

Welcome aboard!  It's been many moons since we were last able to sail and I was so excited to be invited to be a part of the Independence of the Seas Simulation Cruise from Galveston, TX this week.  These simulation cruises are a way for Royal Caribbean to test out their new health and safety protocols for return to sailings.  Each day I will try to give you a little recap of all we have been able to experience and how things are going on board as the ships return to operation. We arrived in Houston last night and drove the remaining 45 minutes to Galveston this morning.  After a little confusion with where to park (much of the Port is still closed) we were walking into Terminal 2 at the Port of Galveston at 11:02am for our 11am boarding time.  Boarding times are extra important to ensure crowds are managed through the health screening and security process.  It was a breeze for us and within 15 minutes we were walking onto the ship. We have a Spacious Oceanview Balcony stateroom on
