Bengal Barbecue at Disneyland

Today I want to share one of my favorite dining locations in any of the Disney parks: Bengal Barbecue.

Bengal Barbecue is located in Disneyland, just across from the entrance to Indiana Jones and the Forbidden Temple in Adventureland.  I have had this dining spot on my Disney “bucket list” for quite a while, and I was a little worried it wouldn’t live up to the hype.  Luckily, it still managed to exceed my expectations! In fact, after dining here with my family last summer it was one of the few dining locations I insisted on repeating on my most recent trip with my fellow Kingdom Konsultant Agents. I’m pleased to say that my high praises for Bengal Barbecue were echoed by the agents dining with me this time.

The main draw to Bengal Barbecue is their assorted grilled skewers, called “Jungle Skewers” on their menu, but they also serve a trio of hummus, a Tiger Tail Breadstick, pineapple spears, and dill pickles. You can order skewers by themselves, or you can order the Bengal Rice Plate which features 2 skewers of your choice, rice, and citrus-miso slaw.  This makes Bengal Barbecue a great choice for a quick snack or a meal.

If I’m being completely honest, I sometimes get nervous about the quality of meat and the sometimes rubbery texture it can have at fast-food like locations in the real world (aka….not Disney).  Fortunately, this was not a concern at all with our Jungle Skewers! Both beef skewers were buttery and tender, the chicken was good quality, although maybe a bit dry, and the pork belly was appropriately chewy.  The skewers are basted in an assortment of sauces commonly found in Asian cuisine.

The Banyan Beef Skewer is described as “hot and spicy” on the menu.  My son loves spicy food, and this was his favorite because it definitely has a kick! If you are sensitive to hot flavors, you might want to skip this one, but I found it to be just the right level of spice. The Bengal Beef Skewer was the favorite for me and my daughter.  The menu describes the sauce as a “sweet Zulu sauce.” My daughter said it reminded her of the teriyaki steak at our favorite hibachi restaurant back home. The Chieftain Chicken Skewer is cooked in a Polynesian sauce.  It was very good, and a nice option for picky eaters in your group. My husband really enjoyed the pork belly skewer and wished we had gotten two.

One underwhelming option on the menu was the Tiger Tail Breadstick.  I had heard great things about it, but we found our breadsticks to be very dry and struggled to finish them.

On the other hand, I had absolutely no expectations as all for the Jungle Julep slushie…and it ended up being one of our favorite specialty beverages of the whole trip!  This featured offering isn’t listed if you are just browsing the menu, but it shows up as an option when you place a mobile order.  This non-alcoholic slushie is a blend of pineapple, orange, grape, and lemon juices.  I would say it is grape forward.  While I could taste the pineapple and orange juices as well, I didn’t really taste the lemon.

Seating for Bengal Barbecue is quite limited, so you will need to be patient in waiting for a table or plan on eating your skewers on the go.  Don't forget to take advantage of mobile ordering in the app!

I will probably eat at Bengal Barbecue every time I visit the Disneyland Resort, but is it a must-do for you too? Tell us which skewer you are most looking forward to in the comments!
