Review: Beak and Barrel at Magic Kingdom

Ahoy, matey! 🦜

The Beak and Barrel, a highly anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean themed tavern is now open. I wanted share my experience while voyaging the high seas and all the pirate lore I learned which inspired this here tavern.

Disney is known for their attention to detail and immersive experiences- this lively pirate pub is no different. The backstory of The Beak and Barrel is that Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn, a legendary pirate and rumrunner, opened her tavern as a gathering place for buccaneers and swashbucklers alike. Her first mate, Rummy keeps an eye on the crew from his perch on top of the bar which is connected to the main space, The Mess. The cursed skull-shaped bar is a focal point of the space, featuring an enchanted rum bottle and as long as it stays full, the pirates will remain cheerful.

Other rooms include the Captains Quarters, Captains Booth, and the Mapmakers’ Room. Each room is filled to the brim with details and easter eggs inspired by the beloved ride next door and the film franchise. Multiple visits would surely be needed to explore all the hidden gems included throughout the tavern.

The Beak and Barrel offers a variety of libations and non-alcoholic beverage options. As expected, rum is featured in many of the signature cocktails. It’s included in their featured cocktail, Plunderer’s Punch, which is served in a souvenir skull mug. The selection of signature cocktails offered are sure to please a variety of preferences. A few wine options and beer made specifically for The Beak and Barrel are also available.

The food menu at The Beak and Barrel is relatively limited, but includes some tasty caribbean inspired small plates.

  • Island Provisions, is their take on a bread service. It includes a variety of chips and dips.
  • Cook’s Corn Griddle Cakes have a meat option with chipotle braised chicken or a plant-based option with roasted corn and poblano peppers.
  • Kraken’s Catch, their spin on ceviche which features octopus tentacles marinated in lemon and lime juice with olives, bell peppers, avocado, and piquillo pepper-almond foam.

Berried Treasure Sour

A few things to note before setting sail on this pirate filled adventure are:

  • Reservations are limited to 45 minutes.
  • There is a maximum of 2 alcoholic beverages per guest.
  • Sailors of all ages can enjoy the tavern.
  • Due to the limited seating, your party may be sharing a table or space with other guests.
  • Groups are limited to 8 people
  • The atmosphere features low lighting, changes in lighting, and loud noises which may not be suitable for all guests.

I think Disney has created one of the most immersive settings to date. The storytelling, hidden treasures, and magical mysteries truly make this a one of a kind experience. I believe it is a must see on your next visit to Magic Kingdom, especially if you are a Pirates of the Caribbean fan like me.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me! 🏴‍☠️
