Resort Hopping - Magic Kingdom Resorts

Do you ever want a bit of a break from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks but still want to be doing something  and feeling Disney along the way?  Resort hopping is one of my favorite ways to spend the time outside of the parks and get a change of scenery and try some new things.  There are 4 (maybe 5) resorts in the Magic Kingdom area that are super easy to get to and each have something unique to offer.  Here are some ideas of things you can do at each resort, whether you want to spend a few minutes to a whole day.  I highly recommend the atmosphere at all of the resorts which is free to enjoy, but most of the recommended activities do come with a small cost associated (grab a snack, drink etc). Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa The Grand Floridian is the flagship resort of Walt Disney World.  It is full of elegance and has much to offer, even has its very own wedding pavilion.  You can arrive here via walking path from the Magic Kingdom, Monorail or Resort Launch.

Disney's Contemporary Resort Review

There are many sophisticated resorts in the world, but how many of them have a magical monorail running through them transporting you to the Magic Kingdom? Disney's Contemporary Resort is where you can find modern elegance with a sprinkling of pixie dust, and an abundance of the classic Disney service, quality, and storytelling. If you've never been to Walt Disney World, or simply aren't sure which one is the Contemporary Resort, I can almost guarantee you can recognize it. As a kid, this was always "the hotel that the monorail goes through" to me. As one of the two original resorts, the A-frame body of the tower is a classic icon representing WDW resorts. It is a wonderful place to stay, visit, shop, play, and eat (I prefer all of the above!). LOCATION and TRANSPORTATION The first thing you'll notice, besides the distinguishable shape of this resort, is its location. While it's impossible to pick the best feature of the Contemporary, the proximity t

Steakhouse 71 Dinner Review

The Wave, especially the lounge, was one of my favorite spots to stop for a bite at Walt Disney World.  So I was understandably upset when they announced the permanent closure.  Steakhouse 71 is what moved in instead, and it celebrates the opening year of the parks and the Contemporary Resort.  It sounded like an acceptable replacement, but of course I had to give it a try for myself.   Upon walking in, black and white photos line the walls which I loved.  The lounge has an upscale retro vibe but our table was quickly called so we didn't get to sit and enjoy that area.   The menu sounded just wonderful, there were so many things I wanted to try.  We started off with some drinks and ordered appetizers.   Amaro Highball Fig Manhattan The cocktails were fine but not my favorites. I've definitely had more impressive cocktails across Disney property.  We opted to switch to wine after these initial drinks.  For appetizers we just couldn't narrow it down so we ordered one each.  T

Throwback Thursday: Chef Mickey's Family Style

Let's take a look back at 2021 when Chef Mickey's reopened as family-style dining before returning to the full buffet experience... Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort has been a long-time popular favorite for its proximity to the Magic Kingdom and the ability to see Mickey and Friends while dining.  However, it hadn't been one of my personal favorites because I felt the quality of food on the buffet had been lacking in recent years.  Since it reopened as a family-style meal and we were able to get a last minute reservation on our recent trip, we decided it was time to give it another chance.  Long story short, I'm so glad we gave this restaurant another try and I hope it stays family-style for a while because everything was really fantastic! Okay now let's get into the details.  We were able to secure a same-day reservation for two on a Thursday night earlier that day.  We had no park plans or anything so some cha
