A Muggles Guide to the Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe

If you’ve ever dreamed of strolling through the cobblestone streets of 1920s Paris, casting spells with your wand, or catching a Niffler red-handed with stolen jewels, the new Wizarding World – Harry Potter & The Ministry of Magic at Universal's Epic Universe is your portal to the magical life. I had the chance to explore this enchanting land, and let me tell you—it's packed with magical creatures, immersive detail, and some sneaky hidden gems even Muggles can appreciate. I am a big fan of the Fantastic Beast franchise and it's characters. I love that those movies have their own place at Universal now.

If you’re a true Potterhead, don’t rush though this land! The little details and Easter eggs make it feel like you’re inside the Wizarding World. The windows are alive and you should take your time exploring them. They’re full of movement and magical creatures you will recognize from the films.

Kowalski's creations in the window

🍰Kowalski’s Bakery window is especially charming with bread in the shape of creatures, just like in the first movie. Beyond Kowalski's you'll see the bronze statue modeled after the French Ministry entrance in The Crimes of Grindelwald. I wish it moved like in the movies!

Restaurants

🖤 Le Gobelet Noir -  this dark, moody pub-style restaurant oozes mystery. Think: magical speakeasy meets French wizarding tavern. The walls are lined with curious artifacts and the menu leans into hearty, rich flavors. Read all about our Top 5 Must Try Epic foods here.

Baklava
🧜‍♀️ Café L’air de la Sirène - It’s bright, elegant, and has beautiful high ceilings. It's a wizard’s version of an enchanted Parisian café.  You can sit outside on the terrace, which is like an authentic French bistro lined with flowers.
Lavendar lemonade and Butterbeer

👉Pro Tip: Get the Butterbeer Crepes! It's so worth it! The Cafe is great for breakfast, brunch or snacks, while Gobelet is great for a lunch or for dinner.

Butterbeer Crepe

Of course, Butterbeer (or Bierauberre in this land) is available in multiple forms. There is a Bierauberre cart in the middle of the street behidn the circus tent too. The Lavender Lemonade is delicious! Find it in both restaurants.

🍭Inside K. Ramelle's sweet shop you can find delicious macarons, truffles, chocholate frogs, jelly beans and more! They also carry the cutest souvenirs!

🪄 Magical Creatures You Have to Spot:

1. Bowtruckles- You’ll find them in the florist’s window. There are five leafy little bowtruckles with different personalities. One’s clearly the ringleader, must be Pickett. 👉 Pro tip: Don’t miss the Bowtruckle in the locksmith shop. He’s trying to pick a lock.

2. Demiguise = Best Wand Moment- Wave your wand just right at the window of Bar Moonshine and you’ll reveal a Demiguise.

3. Nifflers Steal the Show- Look into the jewelry shop and catch the black Niffler mid-heist. But the baby Nifflers are adorable.  Pro tip: If you don't have a wand, find a Cast Member near by and ask them if they can show you the creature in the window.

4. Mooncalf - The cutie in the optician’s window made me want a plush version instantly.

🎢 The 2 Attractions Without Spoilers (and My Honest Take)

Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry

We waited 2.5 hours for this ride—which, let’s be honest, is probably longer than I’ll ever willingly wait for anything again. We started off in the single rider line and was then integrated into the standard line.

👏Pro tip: If the Single Rider Line is available, I recommend using it. It will shave off about an hour of time from a 3.5 hour wait. It closes when it's full, and you will miss some of the queue.

The initial Ministry room itself is a masterpiece. It’s gigantic and so realistic. The rest of the queue is frankly pretty boring. The talking portraits are hard to hear, and the line zigzags through each small section for what feels like forever. The rows in the queue are really tight, there’s nowhere to sit of course, and the AC blasts like you’re in a walk-in freezer.

👉 Pro tip: Have your video ready when your friend walks through the Metro Floo. There's a cool smoke effect that makes it look like they've apparated with Floo Powder to the M.O.M

At the last stretch of the line you finally enter Umbridge’s pink office and meet a brand-new, adorable house-elf. If you’re headed into BATM, I recommend bringing a sweater or jacket. Manual wheelchairs are allowed in, but not scooters or strollers. There is a family room for child swap and a kennel for support animals. Those who have a disability pass can use it as well.

Entrance to Battle at the Ministry

Now, the ride itself- It’s a lot of fun. The animatronics are incredibly lifelike, and the vehicle effects are definitely exciting. But, compared to something like Escape From Gringotts, it didn’t quite deliver the same thrill for me. The storyline felt kind of… meh? I’m not sure Umbridge was the right villain to anchor a major ride like this. Honestly, how epic would a Final Battle against Voldemort  you-know-who have been? Or even a Fantastic Beasts chase through magical Paris or capturing Grindelwald?

Also—theren are animatronic characters with LED screen faces. Not a fan. Our beloved Harry, Ron, and Hermione looked weird in that final scene. The rides scenery felt a alittle bit repetitive.

Was I glad I experienced it? Absolutely! Would I do it again with a 2.5-hour wait? Probably not. But if you’re a diehard Potter fan, it’s still a must-do, just maybe save it for Rope Drop or use Express Pass if it ever becomes available!

Le Cirque Arcanus Show (The Mysterious Circus)

Step right up to Cirque Arcanus—where the magic is dark, the creatures are strange, and nothing is quite what it seems...especially the story behind this show. While the queue was neat, the show’s storyline left me feeling let down, and I love Magizoology.

Let’s start with the entrance...from the outside, the tent looks super small. But once you step inside, it magically opens into a huge, winding line of tents, and then an indoor theater with bench seating. The listed showtime was 6:05, but doors didn’t open until 6:10. The pre-show started around 5 minutes after that. It’s cute and sets the tone well.

💫Pro tip: You’ll be asked to slide all the way down the bench, so don’t be the first ones in the door unless you want to be all the way on the side.

As for the performance itself… well, it was a mixed bag. Kids will really enjoy it! The first half features a few simple circus-style acts that felt a little cheesy—not bad, but not jaw-dropping either. In the second half, the mix of stage actors, animatronics, screen technology and costumed performers were great. But, the storyline? Honestly, a little strange. You'll have to see it for yourself. I won't give away any spoilers. Don’t expect a Greatest Showman moment.

The Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian: Studios of Big Pine Key

I didn't think Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa could get any grander, but then I stayed in one of their Resort Studio rooms. These are the newest rooms at The Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. The Resort Studio rooms are located in the Big Pine Key building which is very close to the main building. The location makes it very convenient to get to the dining options and transportation. Not only is the building close to the main building but it's also across from the Courtyard Pool and Courtyard Pool Bar. Resort Studio rooms are located in the Big Pine Key building When you enter Big Pine Key, you're greeted with a simply lovely lobby. The furniture is super cute and gives off a very cozy, chic vibe. There's lots of pastel colors with floral prints and touches of nature. Universal's Volcano Bay Private Cabana Review

On a recent training in Universal Orlando Resort, the agents rented a private cabana for the day at Universal's Volcano Bay. There are multiple locations around the park along with the option to have an upper or lower level, all of which reflect in various pricing. We received an email the day before informing her of where to check-in the next morning. While we were personally escorted to the cabana shortly after check in, the line at the check in location is the same as those getting towels, meaning it was not short. As expressed by an additional guest checking into a different cabana, we would have greatly appreciated a separate line, since this caused our group about a half hour wait. We're all adults and made great use of our time getting some fun pictures before the park was filled with guests, but this is important to be aware of if you are traveling with children.  We had an upper level Cabana which came with a splendid view! We arrived to a welcome basket of various fr...

Cruising with a Baby: A Complete Guide

You took a baby on a cruise!? Yep, and I'd do it again knowing what I know now. So, say goodbye to months of research - Everything you need to know is here!! One of the biggest challenges of traveling with a baby is planning what you need to bring. I wanted to share what worked for us, and hopefully help others who are planning their cruise! Remember, babies can only cruise after their 6-month birthday on sailings from the U.S. If you are going transatlantic, or have more than three days out at sea, they must be 12 months old by the first day of your cruise. Pre-Cruise   We flew to the cruise port, and I couldn’t bring all the food and snacks I needed, so I placed an Instacart order for pick up near the port. I chose Publix in Cocoa Beach which is a few miles from Port Canaveral. I placed the order a few days before we left home, and set the pickup time to 11:00 a.m. I ordered formula, a box of diapers, swim diapers, bottle brush, dish soap, baby food, and baby snacks. I also broug...
