Disney Genie, Genie+ and Lightning Lane FAQ

The Disney Genie Service has reimagined the guest experience at the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. The new service may have left you scratching your head asking "what does this mean for my next vacation?!" Have no fear as we have put together some of the most frequently asked questions regarding the new service.

Before we dive into the FAQ, let's review the basics of this new service. Disney Genie is a complimentary and convenient new digital service designed to create your best Disney Day. It will allow guests more flexibility and better tools to help make the most of their visit. There are actually 3 separate services that were announced, in addition to some new terminology to learn: Disney Genie (complimentary), Disney Genie+ Service (available for purchase) and Individual Attraction Selections (also available for purchase). Lightning Lane is the new entrance at select attractions that will let you bypass the standby queue. Let's dive in to the FAQ about each new service and how it pertains to your next Disney vacation.

Do I have to download a new app or is this part of the My Disney Experience or Disneyland mobile app? You do not have to download a new app. The Disney Genie service works within the My Disney Experience and Disneyland mobile app. Make sure your app is the most up to date version and you should see the Genie service within the app.
Reminder screen when you login to the My Disney Experience app.
Click on "Upgrade now" to download the latest version of the app.

When did the Disney Genie service become available? The Disney Genie service launched on October 19, 2021.

What exactly does the Disney Genie do? The complimentary Disney Genie Service includes a personalized day optimizer, real-time tip board, forecasted wait times, virtual assistant, mobile order, restaurant wait lists, check-in and reservations, and attraction virtual queues. Some of those features were already available in the My Disney Experience and Disneyland mobile apps so you may already be familiar with those features. The personalized day optimizer, real-time tip board, forecasted wait times and virtual assistant are all new features that will provide enhanced guests experiences.

How much does all of this cost? The Disney Genie service is complimentary so there is no additional charge for the features listed above.

At the Disneyland Resort, Disney Genie+ is $25 plus tax, per guest, per day when purchased in advance as an add-on with a new ticket or vacation package. Single-day purchases for Disney Genie+ through the Disneyland app will begin at $25 per day, and may vary by date, based on demand.

At the Walt Disney World Resort, Disney Genie+ will vary in price based on the date a guest is visiting, similar to theme park ticket prices. Although exact prices aren't known for all dates at this time, prices in late 2022 ranged from $15 plus tax per guest, per day on less busy dates to $29 on some of the busier dates.

The price for the Individual Attraction Selections option varies by date, attraction and park. Sample pricing has been given for access to the Lightning Lane attraction entrance for Remy's Ratatouille Adventure at $9 plus tax per person on October 19, 2021 and $11 plus tax per person on October 23, 2021. On both of those dates, access to the Lightning Lane entrance for Expedition Everest will be $7 plus tax per person on both of those dates and for Star Wars: Rise of Resistance will be $15 plus tax per person. Throughout the year, pricing may be higher on some days and lower on other days.

How does the Disney Genie+ Service work? Guests who purchase the Disney Genie+ Service will be able to make one selection at a time, throughout the day, for the next-available time to arrive at a variety of attractions and experiences using the Lightning Lane entrance. You will only be able to make one selection at a time and then once you use the Lightning Lane entrance for that attraction, you can make another selection for a different attraction. It's important to note that guests will only be able to use the Lightning Lane entrance one time per attraction, per day. Not all attractions will be available through the Disney Genie+ Service.

The Disney Genie+ Service also includes Audio Experiences and Disney PhotoPass Lenses at the Walt Disney World Resort or Disney PhotoPass Downloads at the Disneyland Resort.

What attractions are available with the Genie+ Service? Lightning Lane entrances are available at more than 40 attractions and entertainment experiences across all 4 theme parks. Attractions may vary by date, are subject to change and may not be available at all on the date of your visit. Availability can also change throughout the day so make sure to check the mobile app for the latest availability.

How does the Individual Attraction Selections work? This option allows guests to purchase access to the Lightning Lane entrance at up to two different attractions per guest, per day. It is important to note that these attractions will not be included with the Disney Genie+ service. Although Disney has not released the full list of attractions that will be available for this option, we anticipate that this will be for some of the more popular attractions at each park. This option is subject to limited availability.

What happened to FASTPASS, FastPass+ and Disney MaxPass service? These services have been retired and the Disney Genie+ Service has taken its place. Lightning Lane will use the former FASTPASS and FastPass+ queues.

When can I make my Lightning Lane selections? Lightning Lane selections can be made on the day of your park visit. Guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels can purchase on the day of their visit starting at 7am. All other Walt Disney World Resort guests can purchase on the day of their visit starting at park opening time. At the Disneyland Resort, guests can purchase on the day of their visit starting once they enter a theme park.

Can I make Lightning Lane selections at multiple theme parks or just one per day? Guests can make selections across multiple theme parks per day. So if you start the day in the Magic Kingdom and then park hop over to Epcot, you can continue making Lightning Lane selections throughout the day. 5 Ways To Get Psyched For Your Disney Trip!

Hey-Howdy-Hey, Disney Guys and Gals!      Is anyone familiar with Barney Stinson's "Get Psyched" Mix? Anyone? How I Met your Mother Fans? Ok, great! So you totally get where I'm going with this! If you have no idea what I am talking about, you can watch a clip  HERE!  Basically, the theory is that no matter what's going on in your life, you can get yourself psyched up and ready for something awesome to happen, all by listening to the right piece of music. Playing off of that theory, I feel that one of the very best things about a Disney trip is actually  preparing  for it, or getting psyched! You can have a whole bunch of crappy stuff happening in your life at the time, but if you have a Disney trip on the horizon... even if it's 564 days away, you have something to look forward to and enjoy preparing yourself for. In fact, many Disney fans, (myself included), pretty much get from one day to the next by preparing for upcoming trips. You may even book a ne

Mythos Restaurant at Universal's Islands of Adventure

Located on The Lost Continent of Universal's Islands of Adventure, Mythos is an award-winning, full-service restaurant that offers an otherworldly experience. If you've ever been to Universal's Islands of Adventure, you've undoubtedly walked by this restaurant with its towering rock formations, waterfalls and ancient figures carved into the side of the building. The restaurant has been calling to me for years and I was finally able to give it a try. When you enter the restaurant, it feels like you've entered a cavernous grotto from another world. There are oceanic and mythical touches throughout the indoor dining room and there's also outdoor seating with great views of the park. View from our table The menu features a mix of Mediterranean, Asian and American cuisine including Spanakopita Dip, Pad Thai and a Bacon Cheeseburger. There's also a kids menu for little ones and a dessert menu featuring Chocolate Banana Gooey Cake.  On our first visit to Mythos, we

Universal's Volcano Bay Private Cabana Review

On a recent training in Universal Orlando Resort, agents Maci, Ashley, Aubrey and Yaritza and I rented a private cabana for the day at Universal's Volcano Bay. There are multiple locations around the park along with the option to have an upper or lower level, all of which reflect in various pricing. Agent Ashley received an email the day before informing her of where to check-in the next morning. While we were personally escorted to the cabana shortly after check in, the line at the check in location is the same as those getting towels, meaning it was not short. As expressed by an additional guest checking into a different cabana, we would have greatly appreciated a separate line, since this caused our group about a half hour wait. We're all adults and made great use of our time getting some fun pictures before the park was filled with guests, but this is important to be aware of if you are traveling with children.  We had an upper level Cabana which came with a splendid view!
