Disney Genie, Genie+ and Lightning Lane FAQ

The Disney Genie Service has reimagined the guest experience at the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. The new service may have left you scratching your head asking "what does this mean for my next vacation?!" Have no fear as we have put together some of the most frequently asked questions regarding the relatively new service that was announced in 2021.

Before we dive into the FAQ, let's review the basics of this service. Disney Genie is a complimentary and convenient new digital service designed to create your best Disney Day. It allows guests more flexibility and better tools to help make the most of their visit. There are actually 3 separate services we'll review, in addition to some new terminology to learn: Disney Genie (complimentary), Disney Genie+ Service (available for purchase) and Individual Lightning Lane Entry (also available for purchase). Lightning Lane is the entrance at select attractions that will let you bypass the standby queue. Let's dive in to the FAQ about each service and how it pertains to your next Disney vacation.

Do I have to download a new app or is this part of the My Disney Experience or Disneyland mobile app? You do not have to download a new app. The Disney Genie service works within the My Disney Experience and Disneyland mobile app. Make sure your app is the most up to date version and you should see the Genie service within the app.

Click on "Upgrade now" to download the latest version of the app.

When did the Disney Genie service become available? The Disney Genie service launched on October 19, 2021.

What exactly does the Disney Genie do? The complimentary Disney Genie Service includes a personalized day optimizer, real-time tip board, forecasted wait times, virtual assistant, mobile order, restaurant wait lists, check-in and reservations, and attraction virtual queues. Some of those features were already available in the My Disney Experience and Disneyland mobile apps so you may already be familiar with those features. The personalized day optimizer, real-time tip board, forecasted wait times and virtual assistant are all new features that will provide enhanced guests experiences.

How much does all of this cost? The Disney Genie service is complimentary so there is no additional charge for the features listed above.

At the Disneyland Resort, Disney Genie+ is $25 plus tax, per guest, per day when purchased in advance as an add-on with a new ticket or vacation package. Single-day purchases for Disney Genie+ through the Disneyland app will begin at $25 per day, and may vary by date, based on demand.

At the Walt Disney World Resort, Disney Genie+ will vary in price based on the date and the theme park the guest is visiting. Current prices range from $15 plus tax per guest, per day on less busy dates to $35 on some of the busier dates.

The price for the Individual Lightning Lane entry options vary by date, attraction and park. For example, on November 27, 2023, the price for an Individual Lightning Lane for Star Wars: Rise of Resistance was $22 plus tax, per person. Throughout the year, pricing may be higher on some days and lower on other days.

How does the Disney Genie+ Service work? Guests who purchase the Disney Genie+ Service will be able to make one selection at a time, throughout the day, for the next-available time to arrive at a variety of attractions and experiences using the Lightning Lane entrance. You will only be able to make one selection at a time and then once you use the Lightning Lane entrance for that attraction or 120 minutes after you have made your selection, you can make another selection for a different attraction. It's important to note that guests will only be able to use the Lightning Lane entrance one time per attraction, per day. Not all attractions are available through the Disney Genie+ Service.

The Disney Genie+ Service also includes Audio Experiences and Disney PhotoPass Lenses at the Walt Disney World Resort or Disney PhotoPass Downloads at the Disneyland Resort.

What attractions are available with the Genie+ Service? Lightning Lane entrances are available at more than 40 attractions and entertainment experiences across all 4 Walt Disney World theme parks. Photo Tour and Deck Plan: Disney Fantasy

The Disney Fantasy took its maiden voyage in 2012 and until 2022, was the newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. It's the sister ship to the Disney Dream so you'll see many similarities between the two ships. The Disney Fantasy is an absolutely gorgeous ship, boasting an Art Nouveau style. The ship has 14 decks, 1,250 staterooms, is 1,115 feet in length and weighs 130,000 gross tons. We'll tour the ship starting from Deck 1 up to Deck 14, going from Aft to Forward. Let's start our photo tour! Deck 1 Deck 1 is where you'll find the Health Center. It's also where you can exit the ship to board a tender at Ports of Call that require ships to anchor offshore.  Deck 2 Deck 2 is where you'll find one of the three main dining rooms, Enchanted Garden.  The restaurant transforms throughout dinner, changing from day to night I love these booths! You can also find staterooms, a Midship Detective Agency kiosk and the Vista Gallery showcasing Disney artwork.  Deck

Universal's Volcano Bay Private Cabana Review

On a recent training in Universal Orlando Resort, agents Maci, Ashley, Aubrey and Yaritza and I rented a private cabana for the day at Universal's Volcano Bay. There are multiple locations around the park along with the option to have an upper or lower level, all of which reflect in various pricing. Agent Ashley received an email the day before informing her of where to check-in the next morning. While we were personally escorted to the cabana shortly after check in, the line at the check in location is the same as those getting towels, meaning it was not short. As expressed by an additional guest checking into a different cabana, we would have greatly appreciated a separate line, since this caused our group about a half hour wait. We're all adults and made great use of our time getting some fun pictures before the park was filled with guests, but this is important to be aware of if you are traveling with children.  We had an upper level Cabana which came with a splendid view!

The Villas at the Disneyland Hotel Review

I love staying at the Disneyland Hotel so when I got the opportunity to stay at the new Villas at the Disneyland Hotel during opening weekend, I couldn’t pass it up. Because it was opening weekend, we were greeted in the entrance way of the lobby with balloons and many photo opportunities. When we arrived, there was a mural of the Haunted Mansion. I love how the seats in the main lobby were designed like the teacups in the parks. You can check in using the Disneyland app, drop your bags with bell services and head into the parks or use the amenities why you wait until your room is ready. When your room is ready, the resort will send you a text and you can use the Disneyland app on your mobile device to unlock the room. We dropped off our bags and went straight to the parks. We received a text around 1PM that our room was ready. In the new Discovery Tower (the Villas), you'll find that the lobby is very spacious with many places to sit while you read or wait for your family. Th
