Like many of the Disney buffet options, Cape May has kept the all-you-care-to-eat style but has switched to the more sanitary and safer family-style service instead of a buffet line. This way, the server is bringing the food right to your table, instead of Guests standing in a line, passing by serving trays of food and potentially touching/sneezing on/contaminating stuff that's about to go on your plate. Way better, if you ask me. (It should also be noted that there are currently NO characters at this location.) So what's on the menu now???
As soon as you are called to the podium for your reservation, a Cast Member will walk you to your table, on the way grabbing you a pastry basket and some spreads.
Initially, you will get one of each item: a double chocolate mini-muffin, a plain French bread roll, a butter croissant, an apple puff pastry, and a "lobster tail" pastry. This will be accompanied by little ramekins of honey butter, chocolate hazelnut spread and grape jelly. Everything was fresh and tasty. The Hubs gobbled up the mini-muffin right away. My personal favorite was the lobster tail. Perfectly crunchy, crispy pastry that somehow manages to be chewy and soft on the inside, and filled with a lightly citrusy pastry cream. SO YUM!
Most non-alcoholic drinks are included with your meal, including sodas, hot and iced tea, lemonade, juices, milk and chocolate milk, and drip coffee. There is an adult beverage menu available, as well as specialty coffees and a non-alcoholic specialty drink called the "Keepin' It Reel". This is Sprite, blue curacao syrup, and red Swedish fish candies. A LOT of sugar for the morning and judging by the table next to us, an expensive ($5.49) way for your kid to get some soggy candy.
Shortly after being sat, our server came over and brought us our fruit bowl and our yogurt parfaits.
The fruit was fresh, sweet, and of good quality. My guess is it will vary based on what's in season, but our bowl had strawberries, pineapple, cantaloupe, and red grapes. It was a small bowl, but you can ask for as many refills as you want. We each were also given a small cup of plain yogurt with a berry compote and a sprinkling of granola. These were fine, but next time I would just pass on this dish.
Up next was our hot platter, which contained scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, bacon, tater tots and a beef and potato hash. I love Disney scrambled eggs and feel like you pretty much can't go wrong with them. The sausage and bacon were fine. Nothing remarkable about them, but good. The hash was flavorful, with a sweet and tangy sauce on top and a bit of spice to it. And here goes my unpopular opinion... Don't hate me, but tater tots are awful. I know many people love them. I am not one of them. To me, they taste like someone chewed up French fries and then squished them back into a barrel shape and deep-fried them. Gross. But hey, if you like tater tots, yay! They have them!
Then finally, the last platter came out, with everyone's favorite: Mickey waffles! There was also French toast and buttermilk pancakes. All yummy, all warm, but the standout, for sure, was the French toast. It had an unexpected cinnamon flavor that was just the right touch. So good!
A lot of food, right? But wait... there's more! We were also offered fresh-made omelets. We could choose Western, Veggie or Ham and Cheese. We were so full when they were offered, but I couldn't turn down the Veggie omelet, and I was glad I didn't! It was cheesy and packed with spinach, peppers, and onions, (I specified that I did not want mushrooms and that request was easily accommodated). The omelet was actually one of my favorite items and I would eat and order accordingly next time.
For my vegan friends and those with food allergies, there are plant-based options for yogurt, pastries, eggs, and some of the hot items as well. You just have to ask.
Overall, the meal was plentiful, delicious and not a bad price point, either. At $25 per adult and $14 per child, (plus tax and tip), it is one of the more affordable all-you-care-to-eat meals on property. clam bake buffet, no worries!
