DCL - Rotational Dining Basics on the Disney Magic

One of the things that sets Disney Cruise Line apart from the competition is their unique "rotational dining" set up.  Your party, table mates, AND service team will actually rotate through three Main Dining Rooms (MDRs) throughout your cruise.  This way you get a change of scenery and a chance to experience multiple restaurants while on board!  This differs from traditional cruising where a ship would have one Main Dining Room for you to enjoy each night unless you booked specialty dining or headed to a buffet or quick service spot for the evening.  Those are both still options on a Disney Cruise, but it's exciting to see the new restaurant each night and then see how they pull together different themes later in the cruise. The five Disney ships in the fleet have slight variations on their Main Dining Rooms.  This post will cover the specifics for the Disney Magic.  You can expect one more casual, one more formal and one more "magical" dining experience on eac

Mediterranean Cruise Itinerary Overview

So you're thinking about taking a Mediterranean cruise with the Disney Cruise Line (DCL), but aren't really sure where to start?  This blog post will give you a brief overview of what to expect and what to look for and there will be other posts with more specific details on the ship, ports of call, and various activities for more details! First of all - the ship.  With DCL, they send the Disney Magic across the Atlantic for their European cruise itineraries.  The Magic sailed her maiden voyage in 1998 but underwent a wonderful dry dock a few years ago so it feels like new!  It's one of DCL's smaller ships, so you get a nice intimate feeling on board.  The cruise ship offers three main dining rooms, one adults only specialty restaurant, both adult and family pools, a theater and movie theater, a spa and fitness center and so much more! The Disney Magic as you approach from tendering into port Next up - the season.  Typically, the Disney Magic is in Mediterranean p

Gluten Free Palo Brunch Review

On a December 2022 cruise on the Disney Magic, I enjoyed brunch at Palo with a dear friend who happens to be gluten free. Here is everything she ate and her thoughts on each item. At the time of writing, Palo brunch is $45 per person for an all you care to enjoy, course based meal that can be ordered off a menu. There is a dress code for this adult only dining experience, but I noticed the clothing choices were more casual during brunch vs dinner. We went with the suggested order and started with a complimentary glass of champagne, bread service, and charcuterie boards. She chose the seafood based charcuterie, and her bread service was a flatbread with pesto. For those in the know, the gluten free rolls in the main dining rooms on Disney cruises are delicious, fluffy rolls that are at times better than the regular rolls. This pesto flatbread was really good and without being told they were gluten free, we would have been none the wiser. There were enough for me to indulge in a couple a

Playa Mia Beach Excursion Review

I've spent both of my Cozumel port days at Playa Mia Resort. The first time was in 2018, where I did a cooking class before spending a couple hours at the beach with my adult only fellow travelers. Most recently, I went on a beach excursion on the Disney Magic in December 2022 with my 'Ohana sister and her two girls, ages 6 and 7. In 2018, we were up bright and early and had a small group that left right on time to our excursion. It was easy to stay together and our tour guide was great at pointing out places to have drinks or shop after our excursion, and the pathway to the bus was quite clear. In 2022, our excursion started officially at 10:45 and we were miraculously 15 minutes early and one of the first in line to wait. Which we did, for about 45 minutes. We were clearly waiting for exactly one late family for our excursion to start, which was a bit of a bummer, but it does happen sometimes. Once it was our time to go, it was a bit of a cluster to keep track of who was in o

Remy Brunch Review

On a recent Disney Cruise with a dear friend, we treated ourselves to a brunch at Remy. At the time of writing, this adult only dining option starts at $75 per person. There is a dress code and even at brunch guests definitely dress up for this dining experience. We got all gussied up after rolling out of the oh so comfortable beds on the Disney Fantasy, and went upstairs.  We were quickly escorted to our seat while being given a brief synopsis of the history of the restaurant. Our table had a lovely water view and if one looked hard enough, a small amount of the AquaDuck! We were given a water menu and asked what kind we would like. Simply put, if I am going to indulge in a beverage during an already expensive meal, it's going to be an adult libation nine times out of ten. For that reason, I told our server that I would be happy with tap and so did my dining companion who whispered in my ear she could not justify $15 on breakfast water. We were quickly served complimentary champag

Ultimate St. Thomas Excursion Review

While taking a cruise in November 2022 on the Disney Fantasy, I decided to book the Ultimate St. Thomas through the DCL app while onboard. This excursion started at the bright and early time of 8:15am. The wait to meet with our group in the Walt Disney Theater was notable. When we were told where to sit, we noticed the color of our sticker did not match the others and double checked with the Cast Member. It turns out he had accidentally placed us with the wrong excursion group. I'm mentioning this so if it happens to you, you know to double check as well. Cast Members are human too. We funneled into a group of open air taxis pretty quickly once off the ship. It is not a far walk off the pier and would be challenging to lose the group. The tour was comprised of three separate parts. The first was an island tour where our driver, Perry, told us about the various buildings we drove next to, a history of the island, and some fun facts. We were fascinated to learn that graffiti has a ma
