Chacchoben Mayan Ruins in Costa Maya

Lucky for us, the Mayans were wrong in their prediction of the end of the world in 2012.   However, they were extremely successful thousands of years ago in building amazing temples and other buildings that formed the basis for large cities throughout the Yucatan Peninsula.   For those of you lucky enough to sail on a Western Caribbean Cruise with a stop at Costa Maya, you can see for yourself just how amazing these cities were. Most stops in Costa Maya last a short 4-5 hours, which is the perfect amount of time for an excursion to the Chacchoben Mayan City.   The tour starts off with a 1 hour ride aboard an air conditioned coach bus from the port through the jungle and farmlands of the area.   For many people, this is an eye opening bus ride through very poor and rural areas of Mexico.   These villages and rural areas are much different from what we are used to seeing in the resort areas of Mexico.   During the bus ride, your tour guide does an excellent job of providing bac

Tower of London Tour Review

One of the great things about taking a cruise to a few different ports is that you get a taste of each location and see if you want to come back for more. In May of 2022 I did a British Isles sailing that sailed out of Amsterdam, went to England, Ireland, Scotland, France and then returned to Amsterdam.  Tower Bridge I figured I would like all of these places, at least to some degree. Some were pleasant surprises, such as Liverpool, which was far better than I thought it was going to be. Some didn’t have the impact I thought they would, such as Stonehenge. It was cool to look at but you can’t really get close to the rock formations as they are roped off. So many of the cities I visited were great such as Cork, Belfast, Edinborough, and I’d happily visit these locations again. The one place that absolutely took my breath away was London. I am from New York City, so I don’t impress easily, but this city completely captivated me. I’m not sure if it was the history, the grandeur, or

Alaska Blog Series - Why Cruise Alaska?

The beauty that is Alaska is breathtaking and no amount of words can describe it accurately.   It is something you need to experience and see in person. When they say it is the last frontier, that statement couldn’t be truer. I’ve sailed to Alaska three times over many years and I still want to go back again. There is always something else that I want to see or do that I didn’t get to on my last trip. On two of those sailings, I went in the beginning of June and both were different in what we saw and experienced. On one, the warmer weather had just moved in, so waterfalls were abundant in every port of call.  You may wonder if bringing children on this cruise is worthwhile. I can say without a shadow of a doubt it is.There are many educational opportunities that children won’t even realize because they’re having such fun and enjoying the majesty of the mountains, sites and wildlife. It’s an education not sitting behind a desk in a room, but outside experien
