Contempo Café: Best Place to Monorail Watch and Dine

Please stand clear of the doors! Love to watch the monorails whoosh by? Hop over to Disney's Contemporary Resort's Contempo Café for the prime monorail watching spot and a good quick service meal.  If you've never been to the Contemporary, it's worth a visit. Architecturally, it's awesome, as the monorails drive right through it every few minutes. It also has a 3-story tall Mary Blair painting that you'll see when you hop off. This resort is also home to Chef Mickey's sit down buffet with Mickey and Friends. The two gift shops here are pretty big, and often have things that Magic Kingdom is sold out of. They have a bakery counter with Mickey inside the gift shop too. #1 Monorail fan! We placed a mobile order while on the monorail, and after about 10 minutes of disembarking, the food was ready for pick up. They have ample seating so you can watch the monorail come and go while you eat. We like to try to guess which color is coming through next!  I ordered the

Chef Mickey's: It's Not Just About the Food!

Have you ever left your favorite restaurant and thought, “Wow that was fun!” No? Of course not! Who gets excited about going to a restaurant, just to eat and leave? How would you like to hop on a monorail and arrive in the middle of the hotel that houses one of my favorite restaurants on Disney property? Chef Mickey’s isn’t just about the food. It is an experience in and of itself. When thinking about Disney meals, I personally love the counter service meals. Something quick, simple and yummy will suffice for my family.   This changed a couple years back when I planned a large family get-together in Walt Disney World.   We knew we wanted to hit a character meal as this would be our son Bubba’s first time to “The World”.     I immediately thought “Chef Mickey’s sounds fun!”, so   I made an ADR (Advanced Dining Reservation) right away.    Little did I know at the time, it would become a must-do!

Dive in to The Wave... of American Flavors!

*Please note The Wave permanently closed. In 2021,  Steakhouse 71  opened in the same location. Located off of the lobby of Disney’s Contemporary Resort is one of Disney’s often overlooked  restaurants, The Wave... of American Flavors.   Opening on June 7, 2008, The Wave brought a fresh menu of organic and locally grown produce.   Healthier dining options and environmental friendliness were the main focus.     Images of tofu, leaves and granola are usually what people think of when hearing words like healthy and organic.   However, I can assure you, The Wave’s menu is so very much more than that! Right beyond the check-in area on the ground floor and to the left, The Wave’s entrance is hard to miss.   Glowing blue lights shine their way through the almost tunnel-like hall leading to the restaurant’s bar and waiting areas.   Some guests feel it’s more for the adult crowd, and this is one of the most common misconceptions I have heard in regards to The Wave.   At first glance it may

Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort

I often receive questions about "villas" or "those vacation club rooms" so I wanted to share my experience staying at Bay Lake Tower, the Disney Vacation Club addition to Disney's Contemporary Resort in one of their two bedroom villas. First of all, Disney Vacation Club (DVC for short) villas range from Deluxe Studios (sleeping 4-5) to 3 Bedroom Grand Villas (sleeping 12) and you do NOT have to be a Vacation Club member to book them! These options are great for those that like the home away from home feel or for those that travel with larger parties and like to have the shared space together.  All of the Villas include Disney level accommodations, microwave and fridge. Additionally, 1 bedroom villas and above include a full kitchen and dining area as well as a washer and dryer for laundry.  Let's start with the room. Bay Lake Tower has a modern elegance vibe with some statement colors and deluxe accommodations.  A two bedroom villa has a master suite
