Guide to Disney Genie+ Service and Lightning Lane Entrances

We recently covered the basics of the complimentary Disney Genie service and answered some frequently asked questions so now let's dive into the Disney Genie+ service.

How does the Disney Genie+ differ from the Disney Genie? Disney Genie+ takes your day at the Disney theme parks to the next level by allowing you to select the next available arrival window at select Lightning Lane attractions and entertainment options from park open to close. The other big difference is that the Disney Genie+ is an additional cost.

At the Disneyland Resort, the cost is $25 plus tax, per Guest, per day, when purchased in advance as an add-on with a new ticket or vacation package. Single-day purchases for Disney Genie+ through the Disneyland app will begin at $25 per day, and may vary by date, based on demand.

At the Walt Disney World Resort, Disney Genie+ will vary in price based on the date and the theme park the guest is visiting, similar to theme park ticket prices. Current pricing ranges from $15-$35 per day, per guest, plus tax.

The Disney Genie+ service at the Walt Disney World Resort can be added starting at midnight on the day of your visit through the My Disney Experience app. Once you've purchased Disney Genie+, you can select the next available arrival window for your first experience via the My Disney Experience mobile app beginning at 7:00AM on the day of your visit.

You can view a full list of the attractions available as Individual Lightning Lane Selections and Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane Selections at the bottom of this post.
For this post, we tested out the Disney Genie+ service at the Walt Disney World Resort so steps/suggestions may differ slightly at Disneyland. As with our other Disney Genie posts, stay tuned for updates as we learn more ins and outs of the service.

Agent Bridget tested out the Disney Genie+ service on launch day and shared some of her insights and suggestions with us:
  • There are multiple strategies for making your Lightning Lane selections (LL). If you want to maximize the amount of attractions you visit, the app may have you zig zagging around the park for the next available arrival window.
  • Once you make your LL selection there is no modifying the selection so make sure you pick a time and attraction that you want to visit!
  • Once you pick a LL arrival window, it will show a green check mark once you've booked an attraction but it will still show the next available time so it can be confusing.
  • Your LL selections will appear in your My Day tab but you may have to refresh your window to see the selection. If you don't see your selection right away, try going out and back in if the refresh option isn't working.
  • You can make your next LL selection as soon as you've scanned your MagicBand or MagicMobile Pass at the LL entrance OR after 120 minutes, whichever comes first. (Please note the 120 minute rule only applies after park opening. For example, if you book your first LL at 7am for Space Mountain with a 2pm-3pm arrival window, you'd be able to make another LL selection at 11am if the Magic Kingdom opened at 9am.) As soon as you enter the LL entrance or you reach the 120 minute rule, start checking arrival times for your next attraction.
  • Unlike the previous FastPass+, the only option is to pick the next available arrival window for attractions so if the current arrival window doesn't work for your schedule, wait a little bit and go back to the Tip Board to see the most up to date arrival windows. It's similar to the old, paper FastPass system where the machine would spit out the next available return time. If you think of Genie+ as the more technologically advanced paper FastPass system it will help.
  • You can only make one LL selection per attraction, per day but the Tip Board will still show you the attractions you've already made LL selections for. If you try to select an attraction again, you will receive an error message.
  • The attractions you select as your Top Attractions will show at the top of your Tip Board so in order to remove those attractions from the top of your Tip Board, remove them from your Top Attractions and they will move down to the bottom of the screen. This will help keep the attractions you haven't selected yet stay at the top.
  • Attractions are listed in alphabetical order and not the attraction with the next available arrival window.
  • Some of the AR filters and lenses require you to be in a certain location or position your camera to take a selfie.

  • For attractions that offer a virtual queue and the Individual Lightning Lane Selection (currently only Remy's Ratatouille Adventure), you can join both the virtual queue and purchase the individual LL selection if you want to ride the attraction twice in one day. Since the virtual queue is considered the standby line, this doesn't interfere with the use of one LL entrance per attraction.
  • The app will drain your battery since you are constantly on your phone and refreshing the app so make sure you bring a phone power bank and/or your charging cable so you can recharge throughout your park day.
If you haven't already, make sure to read the Disney Genie Service Basics and Disney Genie, Genie+ and Lightning Lane FAQ posts so you're familiar with these services before your next Walt Disney World vacation. And remember, your Kingdom Konsultant agent is here to help you understand the Disney Genie, Genie+ and Lightning Lane entrances so feel free to ask your agent if you have any additional questions.

Photo Tour and Deck Plan: Disney Fantasy

The Disney Fantasy took its maiden voyage in 2012 and until 2022, was the newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. It's the sister ship to the Disney Dream so you'll see many similarities between the two ships. The Disney Fantasy is an absolutely gorgeous ship, boasting an Art Nouveau style. The ship has 14 decks, 1,250 staterooms, is 1,115 feet in length and weighs 130,000 gross tons. We'll tour the ship starting from Deck 1 up to Deck 14, going from Aft to Forward. Let's start our photo tour! Deck 1 Deck 1 is where you'll find the Health Center. It's also where you can exit the ship to board a tender at Ports of Call that require ships to anchor offshore.  Deck 2 Deck 2 is where you'll find one of the three main dining rooms, Enchanted Garden.  The restaurant transforms throughout dinner, changing from day to night I love these booths! You can also find staterooms, a Midship Detective Agency kiosk and the Vista Gallery showcasing Disney artwork.  Deck

Universal's Volcano Bay Private Cabana Review

On a recent training in Universal Orlando Resort, agents Maci, Ashley, Aubrey and Yaritza and I rented a private cabana for the day at Universal's Volcano Bay. There are multiple locations around the park along with the option to have an upper or lower level, all of which reflect in various pricing. Agent Ashley received an email the day before informing her of where to check-in the next morning. While we were personally escorted to the cabana shortly after check in, the line at the check in location is the same as those getting towels, meaning it was not short. As expressed by an additional guest checking into a different cabana, we would have greatly appreciated a separate line, since this caused our group about a half hour wait. We're all adults and made great use of our time getting some fun pictures before the park was filled with guests, but this is important to be aware of if you are traveling with children.  We had an upper level Cabana which came with a splendid view!

The Villas at the Disneyland Hotel Review

I love staying at the Disneyland Hotel so when I got the opportunity to stay at the new Villas at the Disneyland Hotel during opening weekend, I couldn’t pass it up. Because it was opening weekend, we were greeted in the entrance way of the lobby with balloons and many photo opportunities. When we arrived, there was a mural of the Haunted Mansion. I love how the seats in the main lobby were designed like the teacups in the parks. You can check in using the Disneyland app, drop your bags with bell services and head into the parks or use the amenities why you wait until your room is ready. When your room is ready, the resort will send you a text and you can use the Disneyland app on your mobile device to unlock the room. We dropped off our bags and went straight to the parks. We received a text around 1PM that our room was ready. In the new Discovery Tower (the Villas), you'll find that the lobby is very spacious with many places to sit while you read or wait for your family. Th
